About Creature Comforts Pet Services
|
Hi, my name is Jackie and I started my pet care business in 1990, 17 years ago. I started out by taking care of the pets of friends, neighbors and relatives who went away on vacations. At that time "Pet Sitting" was a relatively new concept, and a friendlier alternative to the cold, hard boarding kennel world. Pet's actually got to stay at home, in his or her own familiar environment.
Taking care of animals just comes naturally for me. As a child, I was surrounded by a menagerie of my own pets; dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, fish, chickens and a pony named "Goldie", who wasn't actually mine, but lived at a pony park that my parents would take me to on Sundays.
As a teenager, my parents sent me to a YMCA summer camp for kids where I immediately fell in love with the horses of the camp and I spent most of my time helping the Equestrian counselor do horse chores. I also became good pals with the camp dogs, a Springer Spaniel and a Saint Bernard.
As I got older, my love and ability to care for animals intensified. I was always happening across stray, lost or wounded animals, not just domestic animals, but wildlife critters as well. I always seemed to be coming to the rescue of some animal, somewhere, all the time.
I started my own pet care business out of love for animals and getting to spend time with new and different animals was a bonus! I wanted to be able to be a Pet Sitter full-time, and now, 17 years later I'm living my dream! I take care of pets and animals 24/7 including all holidays.
My longevity in this business is, I believe, due to the freedom that I enjoy in my personal life. I don't have a husband (been there, done that, end of story), or children to divide my obligations; therefore I am able to devote 100% of my time and effort in providing the very best in pet services. I am qualified, trustworthy, reliable and aptly suited to my profession based on a long and varied background in animal care, including that of Veterinary school, which I attended when I was married.
I was very fortunate and excited to have spent the day with Caesar Milan "The Dog Whisperer" (on the National Geographic Channel), in August of 2006. I came away from that day with a world of information and knowledge that has helped me to better handle many of my client's own dog behavior problems.
My pride and joy has been the 5 Belgian Shepherds that I owned/trained/handled and who excelled in Dog Shows in confirmation, obedience and agility. Now we are beginning to train them to herd sheep. I dedicate my life and love of animals to 2 very special dogs, a Belgian Shepherd named "Stormy" and a German Shepherd named "Shadow", who both died in the summer of 2005 a week apart from each other. Stormy was my first show dog and he excelled in obedience competitions all over the U.S. and Canada. We were a great team. It was Stormy and Shadow who helped me recover from my divorce and gave me the confidence I needed to move up and move on with my life. Stormy was a 195 averaging score obedience competition dog. He gave me his 150% every time we walked into the show ring. Shadow, was a stray dog that came into my life on my ex-husband's birthday, of all things! Shadow and Stormy were inseparable in life, and we went everywhere together. They were my best friends and when they left this world, emptiness was left that is only comforted and filled in service to other animals.
